Poultry & Rabbits

We specialize in our Cornish cross meat chickens that we clean and package for your convenience. They are fresh and ready to cook from farm to table.

WE HAVE ONE GOAL

To Provide The Highest Quality Products Cleanly and Humanely.

After glancing at modern grocery shelves, we noticed meat with odd textures and coloring, so we set out to grow our own meat for our dinner table. After receiving orders from friends and family we felt moved to up-scale our operation and started providing clean, pasture raised chicken to the local public.

Our journey began in 2024 on 4 acres with 10 egg laying hens and chicken math took care of the rest. From then on we have welcomed many more hens, a few roosters, Cornish Cross meat chickens, Rouen ducks, Indian runner ducks, midget white turkeys, and a few rabbits. But we’re not finished yet!

Food is needed for everything and everyone. Not only do we personally prefer to shop local stores but we also feed our animals with locally grown feed. All of our birds are cycled on the property using tractors for pasture grazing to help fertilize the soil accurately and provide fresh grass for every beak.

Meat Chickens

To give our meat chickens the best quality of life during their 6 weeks before butchering, they move from the brooder to pasture around the 3 week mark. From then on they are rotated once if not twice daily to keep there space clean and comfortable.

This particular breed is specifically bred for maximum meat production and they have a reputation for gaining weight to the point of hurting themselves. To keep them from extreme weight gain, we feed them a limited amount of feed daily but fresh grass is at their disposal.

Fresh chickens are priced at $6 per pound

Ducks

We have two different duck breeds on the farm for specific reasons. To maintain healthy vegetable plants/produce and protect our orchard from pests, we introduced Indian Runner Ducks to the farm. With rotational grazing our ducks are happy to take care of the slug population which in turn makes our plants very happy! They are prolific layers as well so duck eggs will be available soon! Known for a “wild duck” taste we plan to process some in the future.

We found our second breed by chance shortly after adding it to our livestock wishlist. Rouen ducks have a good egg production, are a tender meat, and they have difficulty flying (due to their large size). They currently cohabitate with our Midget White Turkeys in a coop with a fenced run to protect them from predators.

Turkeys

We currently have six Midget White Turkeys that we will be organizing a breeding plan for. Their name describes them perfectly, they are in fact smaller, white, turkeys. We found their size attractive for the average household to put on the table. When ready for processing they should reach around 12-15 pounds. They cohabitate with our Rouen Ducks in a large coop with a fenced run to protect them from predators.

Turkey meat is currently not available.

Rabbits

In total we have two breeding pairs consisting of three New Zealands, and one that is a multi-crossbreed. Our breeding rabbits do have names since they are cared for as pets; Ghost, Gimli, Cecelia, and Raven. They are housed in cages above the ground to protect them from predators and diseases carried from wild rabbits. We have a goal to house them all together, colony style, in a temperature controlled building in the future.

Rabbits will be available starting in the Fall through winter and spring seasons.

Grown With Love On Our Farms

All of our farm animals are bred with a purpose and we believe they deserve respect. Life is beautiful and we choose to live with the land and not against it. All life is sacred and we go above and beyond to make sure all of our fluffy creatures are comfortable during their time at Sweet Wells Farm.
